Copisa wins the civil works of a large wind farm in Romania

The construction company Copisa has won the civil works project for the Chirnogeni wind farm. These works, which will involve the installation of 32 wind turbines of 2.5 MW each. The award to Copisa includes the following work units: construction of 25 km of roads for access to the wind turbines, the excavation of 25 km of trenches and laying electric cables in them, and the foundations for the 24 wind turbine units. The whole assembly amounts to 8 million euro and is expected to be finished in a period of five months.

CPI Copisa Industrial lands contract to extend an iron ore mine in Mauritania

CPI Copisa Industrial has been awarded a €100.5 million contract for the extension of an iron ore enrichment works near Zouerate (Mauritania). It is the largest contract ever won by a Spanish company in the country. Work is expected to take 20 months and will provide jobs for over 700 local people who will work with the team at CPI Copisa Industrial’s headquarters in Spain under the direction of its team of engineers. This project is underwritten and financed by the European Investment Bank, the French Development Agency, the Islamic Development Bank and the African Development Bank. Carrying out the work is to involve setting up a fully equipped camp for 700 workers featuring rest and recreation areas at a cost of €12 million.

The Santolea Bridge tailing dam, built by the Presa de Santolea Joint Venture consisting of the firms Isolux-Corsán and Copisa, has been recognised as one of the best to be built in Europe and the finest in Spain. The almost flawless execution of this engineering work is due in large part to a work methodology that makes it possible to optimise the concrete mix, using the natural resources of the area and with the utmost respect for the environment.

Copisa begins the work of mining engineering most important in Spanish state

The Joint Venture formed by Copisa and Ferrovial has commenced drilling of the new salt and potash extraction ramp for chemical firm Iberpotash. This will make it possible to transport the mineral straight from the Cabanasses mine and its processing plant without going through the town of Súria. At 4.7 kilometres the extraction ramp is the longest tunnel with the biggest gradient to be built in Spain in the subsoil, reaching a depth of 900 metres. This project is widely seen as the most important in the field of mining engineering to have been carried out in Spain and involves an investment of over €200 million.

Adif awards the construction of two new stretches of the Madrid-Galicia HST line. Spain

Adif has approved the award of the construction of two new stretches of the Madrid-Galicia high-speed train line. The contract is for carrying out work on the platform for the two tracks in La Canda Tunnel which runs through the municipal areas of Lubián (Zamora) and A Mezquita (Orense). It is to involve work on infrastructure, earthworks, drainage works, structures, the tunnel, the replacement of affected services and easements and road connections to ensure the line can be crossed. Work on the left hand track has been awarded to a temporary consortium made up of Copisa, Copasa, Sercoysa and Construcciones Obras y Viales at a total cost of €88.4 million and with a completion period of 35 months.

Copisa and Viasfalt are awarded the contract to extend the TCB terminal at the Port of Barcelona, Spain

The Barcelona Container Terminal has scheduled the completion of improvements to its facilities for mid-2013. With the expansion of its container yard, the terminal’s total area will come to 81 ha while the berthing line will be extended by 150 metres to reach a total length of 1,515 metres. The entrances to the new terminal will have two different locations at opposite ends for entry and exit of containers. In addition a new transformer station is to be built to provide more electrical power. As for the railway terminal, it will have six European gauge tracks next year. Their length is to increase from 450 metres to 750 metres.

Copisa wins award to upgrade the road linking Bumbesti Jiu and Petrosani in Romania

Copisa, a construction company in Grupo Copisa, has been awarded the contract to upgrade a 33 km long road connecting the towns of Bumbesti Jiu and Petrosani together with the refurbishment of a bridge, building another six new ones and a range of drainage works in Romania. The project, whose total cost comes to €35 million, has been commissioned by the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads under the Ministry of Transport and is to be carried out as a leader of the joint venture set up with other local construction firms in the country.

Copisa awarded maintenance of 187 public school buildings in Barcelona, Spain

Copisa has been awarded the maintenance of 187 public school buildings in the city of Barcelona. The contract, signed between Copisa and the Consortium of Education of Barcelona, organ of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council, $ 5.5 million. The centers in the contract items are kindergartens, nursery schools and primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, art schools, adult education centers and general services located in the municipal districts of Horta Guinardó, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí.
This new contract represents the consolidation of Copisa Group in the maintenance area, started in the 80’s.

Copisa lands award to build a hydroelectric plant in Costa Rica

Copisa has won a €22 million contract award to build a hydroelectric plant in Pavones de Turrialba in Costa Rica. The plant has been commissioned by Unión Fenosa Generadora Torito, a Gas Natural Fenosa group subsidiary in the Central American country, and means that Copisa has now entered the Costa Rican market.
